Apple Doughnut Muffin 1/3 cup shortening 1 1/2 cups sugar, divided 1 egg 1 1/2 cups sifted flour 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg 1/2 cup milk 6 tablespoons melted butter Cream the shortening and 1 cup sugar. Add egg. Beat well. Mix and sift flour with baking powder, salt, and nutmeg. Add alternately with milk to egg mixture. Fill 12 greased muffin tins about two-thirds full. Bake at 350 degrees F. for 20 to 30 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from pans at once. Roll in melted butter, then in mixture of remaining 1/2 cup sugar and the cinnamon. Makes 12 muffins.
